As diverse as the big-ticket summer festivals are, few unite the diaspora quite like Chicago's World Music Festival. The week-long gala offers plenty of appealing trad-global flavor, but the real draws are the more modern genre-hoppers. Friday at Martyr's, San Fran-via-Algeria DJ Cheb I Sabbah draws on traditional Indian music for his renowned mixes, which are simultaneously dense and downbeat. You get three chances to see South Africa's BLK JKS (Secretly Canadian) — their Diplo-approved, fuzz-guitar bliss-out is a clear stand-out. But if you only hit one WMF stop, make it Thursday's "One World Under One Roof" close-out bash. Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens headline this annual night of atypically jam-packed raucousness at the Chicago Cultural Center.
