In the third installment of the AIC's On The Scene series, the divergent work of three artists is displayed in a curious juxtaposition. Wolfgang Plöger gets especially abstract with his Make No Mistake installation, featuring film projectors that display the final statements of death row inmates. The words are flashed too quickly to decipher but remain intriguing. Jason Lazarus builds his own mystery with a collection of found photographs from 1889-1996 that focus on the messages inscribed on the backside of each. Some funny, others straightforward, Lazarus' collection arouses a communication that has been endangered by the digital age. Lastly, Zoe Strauss' Week of the Perfect Game features photographs composed around Chicago in July '09 in which a deceptive simplicity shines through frontal portraits and stark cityscapes.
