When the five artists behind Julius Caesar converted a studio space into a small gallery in 2008, they aimed to create an exhibition environment that would be both permissive and supportive. While it can feel like a hike to reach their West Town-ish location, it's usually worth it. If you haven't been, their two-day jamboree-cum-fundraiser, Fest Fest, is a great introduction. The weekend is filled with performances, lectures, and — at night — sets by local bands. The heart of the endeavor is an exhibition/silent auction of works by Kay Rosen, Michiko Itatani, and dozens of others. Look for previous exhibitors such as Judith Geichman, whose recent show we immensely enjoyed.
