Brooklyn-based psychedelic chamber-pop quartet Grizzly Bear are reaching dizzying heights of ubiquity these days: band members' multiple collabs, summer-festival omnipresence, a shout-out from Jay-Z, and their latest disc, Veckatimest, debuting at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 in the distinguished company of Hannah Montana and Lady GaGa. Although we're not sure whether we care, as the NYT does, if they're drinking old-fashioneds or gimlets, Grizzly Bear's success — predicated on a melancholic, Jeff Buckley-meets-Brian Wilson brand of drama and strangeness — gives us hope for winsome weirdoes everywhere. And for a band whose recent work could be said to exemplify "obsessive studio album," the multi-instrumentalist Grizzlies have a reputation for putting on a hell of a show.
