Acclaimed Chicago author Audrey Niffenegger debuts her second novel tonight with a discussion at the Swedish American Museum. Like her debut, the bestseller-turned-blockbuster film The Time Traveler's Wife, Her Fearful Symmetry features Chicago-connected characters; but this ghost tale centers its elliptical narrative around London's Highgate Cemetery and the peculiar denizens of its outlying lands. It's hard to begrudge Niffenegger her much-publicized multimillion-dollar advance: with Wife, her work at the Center for Book & Paper Arts, and now Fearful, the author has arguably done more to turn the literary world's gaze toward Chicago than any other writer this decade.
