Titus Andronicus w/ the So So Glos and CoCoComa

Cutting-edge recording equipment and studio wizardry be damned — the four-track and basement setup does just fine for Titus Andronicus. Named for an exceptionally depressing Shakespeare play, the New Jersey four-piece wraps every guitar note and drum beat in a bundle of fuzz, forcing them through distortion-heavy amps that sound as if the wires have been chewed out. The thrashing feedback has enough Sex Pistols snarl to be punk, but Titus Andronicus' sweeping harmonics and plangent vocals are as much Arcade Fire as they are "Anarchy in the UK." It's a heady mélange — raucous, rhythmic, and anything but tragic.
