Richard Graef, flute

Assistant principal flutist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1968 and previously assistant principal flutist of the Minnesota Orchestra, Richard Graef holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Indiana University. He also attended the Aspen Music School and Austria’s Mozarteum Academy of Music. An active performer and teacher of the one-keyed baroque flute, Graef has an extensive collection of historic flutes. As associate professor of flute at Northwestern, he teaches both modern and early flute technique. Graef was honored with a Grammy Award for his work with Chicago Pro Musica.
