The Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival began nine years ago when producer Brian Posen booked a six-week run at the Theatre Building for a musical. When that project didn't work out, he called on sketch-comedy-scene friends to fill the calendar, and a new Windy City tradition was born. As the "Sketch Comedy Capital of America" (home to the Second City, iO, and Schadenfreude, to name a few), it couldn't have been more fortuitous. The Fest has become a destination for sketch-comedy troupes from around the country as well as a premier showcase for hometown talent. In addition to over 150 performances (by more than 100 groups) over eight days, the festival hosts events like "Sketchubator" (in which performers try new concepts at a breakneck pace) and weekend post-show networking.
