With Concoction, the Post Family's Chad Kouri clips and recontextualizes a decades' worth of Don Draper-worthy, '60s ad photos. Idealized beauties and luxury products are transformed by implied action, satirical staging, and absurd, Ernst-esque juxtaposition. Cut-up pieces on panels and vintage paper nudge the ribs of Alive With Pleasure domesticity and Early Times leisure — all with ever-precise compositional design. Along Rotofugi's western wall is where Kouri really nails the odd confluence of ad-world deception and fine art, in a diamond-shaped amalgam of dozens of smaller, framed collages and found material. The spirits prove both kindred and opposing.

Rotofugi says…

Debut solo show by the Post Family member Chad Kouri.

Chad Kouri is a stuff junkie, glue and adhesive enthusiast and a procrastinator. Chad spends most of his time in alleys looking for treasures to build out his found-art collages and illustrations. The rest of his time is spent writing emails to people he has never met and other things to pass the day. He is a member of Chicago art collective the Post Family. This is his first solo exhibit.

Our gallery is open every Saturday from noon until 4pm, and can be opened upon request at almost any time by asking at our toy store next door.
