The MCA's Face the Strange series welcomes notable, outré-leaning musicians to the Puck Café pit stop on the fourth Tuesday of each month through April. (Past acts include White/Light and Implodes.) December offers another doozy, Toxoplasmosis. The duo is comprised of Alivia Zivich and Nate Young (a member of Michigan noise kingpins Wolf Eyes, who — heads up — hit the Abbey Pub in February). Zivich and Young are also members of Demons, a synesthesia-bent trio that crafts some seriously dread-inducing synth-based "visual music." Here the pair teases out equally hypnotic whirls and squelches from their organ-and-bass setup.

Museum of Contemporary Art says…

Toxoplasmosis is the bass and organ duo of Nate Young and Alivia Zivich. The project sprang from jams created during breaks from their main musical groups — Young performs in Wolf Eyes, Demons, and Stare Case, as well as solo; Zivich also performs in Demons. Toxoplasmosis is a mix of composition and improvisation with a sparse, unpolished sound. Toxoplasmosis is driven by inspirations ranging from mid-20th century experimental composers Gordon Mumma and Todd Dockstader to the early rock 'n' roll of the Doors and the Velvet Underground.
