While you fret over whether or not Tim Goldsworthy has left DFA, take solace in the fact that the label he co-founded continues to churn out great dance tracks. Holy Ghost! might be one of the less ballyhooed signings, but they had an impressive year in '09. The single "I Will Come Back" is the kind of old- vs. new-school dance-pop they do so effortlessly — shuffling house, New Romantic white-boy soul, and some of the bubbliest synth builds this side of Hot Chip. They're great remixers, too. In a year that saw everyone trying their software at Phoenix, Holy Ghosts' "Lisztomania" was one of the few to tease out the blissed rhythms and open spaces hiding in all that French-pop dizziness.
