After a notable stint at Germany's Bauhaus school, László Moholy-Nagy became one of the great modernists to work in Chicago, where in 1939 he founded the famed Institute of Design (now part of IIT). Key to Moholy-Nagy's vision was combining art and technology and examining the fundamentals of perception. Moholy: An Education of the Senses presents an enlightening cross-section of the artist/educator's practice, including films, drawings, photographs, and camera-less photograms made with light. One highlight is encountering the gleaming mechanical sculpture Light Prop for Electric Stage — last exhibited in Chicago some 50 years ago — and the film that captures its movements, shadows, and reflections.
