For her debut, Milwaukee librarian and body-art expert Amelia Klem Osterud turns her fascination with tattoos into a tribute to the heavily tattooed dames of the circus sideshows of yesteryear. Osterud explores the highly sexualized sideshow acts who dared to bare their body ornamentation to make a buck or two — and subject themselves to great public scrutiny and fascination in the process. Though politically incorrect circuses have for the most part faded into the past, the tradition of tattooed ladies such as Artoria Gibbons and Nora Hildebrandt live on in Osterud's work and personal quest to become a tattooed darling herself.
