The great gadfly Dubravka Ugresic once said, "An airport is the most common metaphor for our contemporary world." Understandably so: it covers everything from in-wait absurdity to the ways in which national origins both alienate and unite us. Massively acclaimed choreographer Akram Khan dances with both of those concepts in bahok, a new touring piece that is garnering raves for its precise staging and, of course, diaspora-uniting movements. Khan's hallmark is a kind of fluid internationalism, classical kathak that soaks up modern expanse. Though Khan does not perform here, his impressive troupe, assembled from around the globe, is sure to preserve the impulse.
