BBU, as you might know, stands for Bin Laden Blowin' Up. The local three-man crew's name alone piques interest (though they occasionally sub with "Black, Brown, and Ugly"), but it was their '09 juke-hop hit "Chi Don't Dance" that really got tongues wagging. Heads responded, too, and "Chi" deserved its eventual ubiquity. The snowball rolls on as BBU celebrate the release of their Fear of a Clear Channel Planet mixtape. The hyperactive banger "BB Who" is even more anthemic, and "Jukin' on Landmines" is a great clubland manifesto — Dead Prez fire-breathing over Southern bounce. On paper and in practice it's exactly what you want in underground hip-hop: political yet wary of no-fun "consciousness," party-tailored but smartly subversive.
