Lately, Brooklyn outfit Asobi Seksu have branched out from their shoegaze roots to emit wholly crafted dream-pop soundscapes. Their name derives from a Japanese slang term for "playful sex," and it's no wonder. Frontwoman Yuki Chikudate's sugary-yet-melancholic vocals shine on tracks like "Me & Mary" and "Gliss," oscillating between childlike innocence and a sense of all-knowing femininity that holds up just fine against guitarist James Hanna's powerful lo-fi chords.
