Tilda Swinton is an uncommon sort of silver-screen powerhouse: still a formidable actor's actor and a consistent scene stealer, but with every passing year more of a major star (an Oscar for Michael Clayton helps). In I Am Love, an apparent high point at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals last year, Swinton even performs in Italian, and with a Russian accent no less. But she's only one compelling reason to seek out this advance screening of Luca Guadagnino's passionate, operatic film about upheaval in an upper-class family in Milan. Critics have been quick on the Visconti comparisons, and along with a complex story it features an impressive style and a score by Nixon in China composer John Adams (his first foray into cinema).
