A few years back, Woods were embracing lo-fi rawness and putting out runs of cassettes through their own label, F*ck It Tapes. On albums like At Rear House, sound collage-like moments rub up against ominous, yet oddly catchy folk-rock numbers that have a remote-cabin feel to suit the moniker. If it kinda seemed like the musical dispatches of gifted hermits with spooky falsettos, Woods eventually signed to Shrimper for CD re-releases and Woodsist for vinyl. On their latest full-length, 2009's Songs of Shame, they dial down the experimentalism a bit, but to good effect, allowing solid songcraft to shine through. With Real Estate on deck tonight too, delivering warm-toned Jersey indie rock, you've got a Pitchfork-approved double whammy here.
