Oh, the strange fate of a left-field band facing a meteoric rise. Hardened Animal Collective fans complained about the accessible nature of Merriweather Post Pavilion, while the unconverted are increasingly eager to accuse them of pretentiousness. Animal Collective, for their part, seem to be simply dashing along, still experimental yet comfortable in their path — all the while trying out more ambitious audio-visual platforms. Following their recent Guggenheim invasion, the band heads to six cities for screenings of their Sundance-premiered, 53-minute film, ODDSAC, made with video artist Danny Perez. Conceived as a visual album, it's as vivid and weird as you'd expect, but probably more menacing, with horror-movie elements that undercut some of the group's stereotypes (campfire time, anyone?).
