Although Scout Niblett is frequently compared to Cat Power, the singer's razor-sharp vocals and sudden switches from skeletal blues to sludgy grunge feel more in line with PJ Harvey than Chan Marshall. The English-born Niblett eventually settled in Portland, Oregon, and developed her heavier tendencies with legendary producer Steve Albini. The raw, searing Calcination of Scout Niblett (Drag City, 2010) is easily their best collaboration to date.
