Twelve years after Moon Safari, Air drift onward where other analog-gizmo fetishists have deflated. It has something to do with the way that sexy-boy duo Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin play out a strange dichotomy with each record: retro-futurism swimming in both camp and an aesthete's sophistication; fey and debonair; plastic and warm. It also probably has something to do with that never-ending arsenal of great, weird bleeps and whooshes and sneaky, ear-worming melodies. All of which are on display tonight as Dunckel and Godin, joined only by drummer Alex Thomas (Bat for Lashes/Badly Drawn Boy), dig into their deep catalog, performing stripped-down versions of classics and reworked tracks from last year's return-to-form Love 2.
