“Master choreographer Alvin Ailey and his diverse, fiercely athletic dance company have come to define their own school of movement — incorporating elements of jazz, West African dance, samba, and hip-hop into classical ballet to create an entirely new style. Although Ailey died nearly 20 years ago, his troupe continues to thrive in its New York headquarters. Highlights of the revolving program include Uptown, Mathew Rushing's paen to the Harlem Renaissance, and Best of 20 Years, which plucks favorites from Judith Jamison's ongoing tenure as Artistic Director.”
An Auditorium and Chicago favorite! Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is proud to be American's cultural ambassador to the world, bringing African-American artistic expression and the American modern dance tradition to the world's stages. The genius of Alvin Ailey changed forever the perception of American dance; today the legacy continues with Judith Jamison's remarkable vision and the extraordinary artistry of the Company's dancers. This season will mark Ms. Jamison's twentieth year as Artistic Director.
