“With exhibitors ranging from White Light and Chicago Filmmakers to Doc Films and Block Cinema all semi-regularly exhibiting short films, our BS detector shakes like a Geiger counter at Mr. Burns' plant when we hear complaints about a lack of non-feature screenings. Now, the Chicago Short Film Brigade returns for a fourth season to help fight the good brevity fight, with an extensive cross-section of live action, animation, comedy, and drama. While some venues lean obtuse, CSFB puts the onus on approachability (merry whistler-to-the-kids Andrew Bird is among the Board of Directors). That's not to say, of course, that the Brigade lacks chops: the program includes stop-motion faves Lyle Pisio and Britta Johnson and two shorts from the mighty Al Jarnow.”
