In Listening In: Radio and the American Imagination, Susan J. Douglas wrote of the "zen of listening," something to which viewers of This American Life's failed TV experiment will certainly attest. The Third Coast Filmless Festival, presented by Chicago Public Radio and the Third Coast International Audio Festival, offers a full-day program of such auditory enchantment. The three scheduled blocks include live presentations, audio installations, and documentary/storytelling "screenings." You'll hear past TCIAF winners alongside a bevy of new works, which range from the seemingly ephemeral to bold investigative journalism. The evening culminates with a discussion/book launch for Reality Radio: Telling True Stories in Sound — speakers include Re:sound's Gwen Macsai and the king of clipped-speech conversation himself, Ira Glass.
