DJ Spooky scratched a name for himself over a decade ago with Songs of a Dead Dreamer, that classic experimental electronic game-changer. Last year's The Secret Song, a theory-loaded mash-up that included Farsi poetry, Led Zeppelin, and economic philosophy, ranked among his best. Tonight's AV-collagist performance looks to be considerably less weighty, but no less personal or dizzying. Tracing his musical roots and mapping out an imagined future, That Subliminal Kid scratches soul and soul-inspired records to a projection of Wattstax, the documentary of a legendary 1972 Isaac Hayes/Staple Singers/Richard Pryor concert.
