Bands today are no strangers to strings and soaring orchestration; Even so, Efterklang feel singular. Call them Denmark's counterpart to the Arcade Fire if you must, then settle in for another stereo session unpacking their resplendent Parades (2007). At the confluence of art rock and indie pop, their music is grand, sweeping, almost symphonic, yet flecked throughout with electronic elements. While the band's latest LP, Magic Chairs, feels less adventurous, a bit more circumscribed, you can't deny the pull of tracks like "Modern Drift" and "Alike." Efterklang's live show, it's worth noting, has a reputation of its own; no surprise coming from a crew that released a live album as their third full-length.
