Eun Hyung Kim's exhibition, Designing Egos, explores the underworld of sexual and romantic captivity. Inspired by cliché images of romance in popular culture, the artist's pencil drawings, animation, and wall paintings fill the gallery with cartoon-like depictions of anamorphic figures. Part objects, part animals or landscapes, the men and women in Kim's drawings define themselves through abstract and literal representations of romantic and sexual desire. Raindrops turn to faces, heads stipulate the natural landscape, water has the face of a girl, and women turn to beasts. Playful and at times vulgar and bitter, Kim's alluring language paints a dark allegory of sexual dependence. A highlight from the show is Kim's installation, "The Station of the Romantic Meteorites." Made from crumpled paper, it depicts the miserable faces of aching lovers who have ironically become trapped on the fallen stars' rock-hard surface.
