The producers of Rent have caught lightning in a bottle a second time, proving again that musical theatre can be relevant to the twentysomething crowd. Avenue Q, which snagged the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical (take that, Wicked), is Sesame Street for the iPod generation, starring primary-colored, foul-mouthed puppets singing about Internet porn, post-collegiate unemployment, racism, and one-night stands. After wrapping its six-year run on the Great White Way, becoming one of the 25 longest-running Broadway musicals in the process, the "felt-good musical" is hitting the hinterlands. But the puppet posse is only playing Chicago for a week, so don't wait around.

Bank of America Theatre says…

Bank of America Theater: Avenue Q is Broadway's smash-hit 2004 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. A hilarious show full of heart and hummable tunes, Avenue Q is about trying to make it in NYC. Called "one of the funniest shows you're ever likely to see" by Entertainment Weekly, Avenue Q features a cast of people and puppets who tell the story in a smart, risque, and downright entertaining way. The New Yorker calls it "subversive and uproarious!"
