In a city full of characters, Vincent Falk might be our most recognizable eccentric. Even if you don't recognize the name, chances are you've seen Falk many times, dressed to the nines in vibrant suits, spinning on the State St. bridge, and merrily posing for local-news cameras and riverboat traffic. To see Falk is to wonder, "who is that guy?" Vincent: A Life in Color, which screened at Ebertfest a few weeks back, fills in the gaps where occasional human-interest articles only scratched the surface. From his adoptive childhood, through his DJ gigs at gay discos, to his computer-programming and cornball-pun slinging present, his affecting tale is nearly as colorful as his bottomless wardrobe.

Gene Siskel Film Center says…

Siskel Center says: Everybody in Chicago knows Vincent. But what does anyone really know about him? Vincent P. Falk (aka "Fashion Man," "Man of a Thousand Coats," and "Riverace") has become a living urban legend for the brightly colored jackets he flashes, with his signature twirl, at the State Street Bridge and other downtown locations. In this charming and inspiring documentary, filmmaker Jennifer Burns investigates the rumors about this mystery man (Is he an exhibitionist? An artist? Mentally challenged?) and discovers a complex and resourceful human being who overcame childhood neglect and impaired vision, worked for over 20 years as a computer programmer for Cook County, came to terms with his sexual identity, and emerged as a genius of self-promotion.
