“It's been 20 years since Wicker Park developers converted the former artists' hovel Manchester Lofts into real-estate-gold condos, ushering in a still-rolling wave of gentrification. That said, bright spots continue to shine around the six corners. Case in point: Wicker Park Fest, perhaps the cheapest, most stacked neighborhood festival of the summer. The lineup boasts indie-rock legends (Mission of Burma), weirdo dubstep (Gaslamp Killer), neo-electro improvisers (Holy F*ck), and reunited emo heroes (Cap'n Jazz). There's even some honest-to-God metal (Torche, Baroness), which has sadly been shown short shrift this festival season.”
