“Joey Comeau is best known for A Softer World, a still-running webcomic that, like Garfield Minus Garfield, found fame last decade by taking a simple conceit — in Comeau's case, short text superimposed over a three-panel strip of photos — and creating snapshots of hilarious metaphysical dread. The winning streak kept up with Overqualified — an epistolary collection of smart-ass cover letters that Comeau sent to real companies — which similarly added anxiety and spite to the always reliable Henry Root/Letters From a Nut tradition. Today, Comeau reads from his latest project, the novel One Bloody Thing After Another, which looks to keep with his balance of squirm and slapstick: Jackie has eyes on Ann, but her mother's ghost and metamorphed monster-families are kind of crushing her game.”
