BC MacEachran's second solo exhibition at ebersmoore, The Big Gray Con, brings to mind a game of optical illusions. The longer you look, the more you're surprised by the seemingly predictable composition of geometric shapes and patterns. MacEachran's oil panels are small (12x9 inches), usually in colors of pastel candy drops, but they're so packed with intricate patterns that you can't help but think there was a protractor, ruler, and a good game of probabilities behind these images. Whether MacEachran was testing his number rule for composition or just examining color relationships, the effects are kaleidoscopic and at times studiously unexpected.

EBERSMOORE says…

In The Big Gray Con, BC MacEachran continues to be influenced by how memory works, namely that our memories are just recollections of the last time we remembered a moment not the remembering of the actual moment or event itself. With these ideas, complemented by MacEachran confronting various experiences in the present, his intent is to address the paradoxical point of breaking down the relationship between art and life, while at the same time increasing and reinforcing it, making reference to pictorial structures that have movement and stability simultaneously.
