“The announcement of Boris' collaboration with the Cult's Ian Astbury (due in September) seemed to get more press than anything the Japanese psych-metal lifers have actually released in the last few years. That's too bad considering they've been on a quiet winning streak since 2008's Smile (which, it should be said, was hardly the faceplant some dismissed it as). 2009's Japanese Heavy Rock Hits 7'' series saw them as peripatetic as ever, rumbling ably through drone, grunge, and even hand-clapping pseudo-classic rock; and the 12-minute "Luna," their half of this year's split EP with Torche, is a Pink-ish dream-metal opus — and one of the better heavy-rock songs of 2010. Local rear-ending survivors Russian Circles have rejoined the tour and open tonight.”
