“Derek Erdman's ridiculously prolific output in Chicago over the last 14 years has ranged from thousands of pop-art paintings of celebrities and politicians to illustrations and wildly funny performances. Erdman's final Chicago exhibition (he's moving to Seattle) at High Concept Laboratories' giant space resembles a huge, artistic garage sale; according to the artist, there are thousands of drawings and paintings, sculptures, prints, and even furniture, along with performances of his famous prank calls and a bunch of fortune-filled hot dogs and gummy bears — all made by the artist or from his personal collection, for sale, for cheap. It's an appropriate sendoff for the playful Erdman, who's fascinated with mass reproduction, commercial debris, and the collapse of the personal and the public.”
