There is no slasher movie-like gore in the Museum of Contemporary Photography's Crime Unseen as one might expect guess from the title, but that makes it all the more eerie. Angela Strassheim uses a forensic chemical spray called Blue Star to bring out bloodstains that have been cleaned and painted over, but remain nonetheless. The resulting images show traces of violence within a now-peaceful domestic setting. Likewise at first glance Krista Wortendyke's photos are of nondescript urban settings in Chicago — but their banality belies the fact that each location is where a homicide occurred. Taryn Simon's video piece brings some closure to the exhibition as former inmates discuss their time in prison and, unexpectedly, their feelings.
