“What seems at first like a modern story with some classical references — whiskey, Speedos, and a copy of Homer — becomes a fascinating, often eyebrow-raising adaptation of the story of Odysseus' mythically faithful wife, Penelope. Irish playwright Enda Walsh's Penelope offers a deliciously anachronistic take that forms, more than myth, a linguistically playful and poignant consideration of love (and how we express it), war, masculinity, and survival. Directed by Steppenwolf ensemble member Amy Morton, it is wry, witty, and unexpected, and as ever, seeing the indomitable Tracy Letts on stage is a treat.”
