San Francisco-based artist Frank Kozik was a major player in the '90s concert-poster renaissance, creating neon-saturated artwork for bands such as the Melvins and Sonic Youth. These days Kozik is also a heavy in the vinyl-toy community, where designs like "Smorkin' Labbit" have an almost totemic stature. His fine exhibition of new work at Rotofugi, Stoner Fort, feels like a joint between both legs, though it wisely employs neither medium specifically. Sleek ink-on-plexiglass prints feature pop-culture iconography (Star Wars, in most cases) and the odd day-glo-bathed flashback. Kozik's toy-era "smoking" designs are present, but here as an oil triptych of Mao portraits. And a couple of sly references to Rat Fink and Warhol seem to nudge critics who might perilously reduce him to simple post-pop lowbrow.
