The chandelier is the main recurring motif in Lorraine Peltz's exhibition at Packer Schopf Gallery in the West Loop. A staple of genre paintings throughout art history, the chandelier may symbolize elegance, material success, and celebration, all associations that Peltz references and explores. However, with the continued economic problems and the coincidental timing of the Occupy Wall Street protests, Peltz's most interesting images prove to be the ones where the chandelier imagery is repeatedly layered over itself, building up an unstable and precarious image of wealth.
