Chicago, sports town that it is, proves to be a good backdrop for Rob Carter's video and installation at Ebersmoore. Accompanied by a soundtrack that includes soccer chants and Christian hymns, luscious green plants sprout, grow, and die back around a model of a sports stadium with a gothic exterior. Eventually it seems one is witnessing various levels of organization: religious, biological, architectural, and sporting. Carter indicates the importance of how organizations cooperate and when they break down — soccer fans can either join voices supporting their team, or join in a riot. Taken along with the artist's tribute to Buckminster Fuller in his geodesic work "Bucky Ball," there's more at stake in cooperation than just winning a game.
