"I make shit up," the protagonist of Carlos Murillo's indubitably dark play announces in its opening moments; the rest of dark play or stories for boys bears out the limit case of what an alienated, cynical, ruthless teenage boy is capable of when he reads an AOL profile declaring, "I want to fall in love." Collaboraction's show, directed by Anthony Moseley, is often astonishing, not the least due to the energy and sheer palpable joy of its young actors, who manage to bring humanity to a script that's often graphic and clear-cut but chillingly cold. (They even fully realize, in a highly uncanny feat, a truly vivid, three-dimensional portrait of a character who doesn't exist.) This is Collaboraction at their best: exploratory, energetic, and mirthfully bleak.
