“With all the pageantry and pride accompanying major world events like the Olympics it's easy to overlook the long process and major projects that make these spectacles possible. This is what artists Ryan Griffis, Lize Mogel, and Sarah Ross remind us in Global Cities, Model Worlds. While we all like to see the world coming together to peacefully compete in sports, this "model world" masks a host of inequities and injustices. As the exhibition shows us through concise design and information, the Olympic games can leave a host city with crippling debt (Montreal and the 1976 Olympics) or construction projects that displace thousands of people (Beijing and the 2008 Olympics).”
