“There's something strangely haunting about Enron in TimeLine's intimate space, closely surrounded by its jet-black walls, and on three sides, glaring eyes that watch from the future, knowing how it will all turn out. Director Rachel Rockwell takes British writer Lucy Prebble's play, a sensation in London yet notoriously troubled in New York, and works near-miracles to stabilize and tighten the unconventional, difficult piece. Prebble explores the infamous downfall of the energy giant with clarity and often-surprising theatricality, but it's the production's sense of entrapment in the downward spiral that finally makes the play click. Bonus points for great use of nostalgic '90s hits; listen closely during intermission.”
