“Local self-described "flower punk" upstarts Secret Colours distinguished themselves from Chicago's surplus crop of psych-rock bands with their self-titled 2010 debut LP. This record-release show celebrates their fine follow-up, EP3, again sporting the sort of Spiritualized-gleaned echo-and-fuzz hypnotism and stoned-along-Carnaby-Street open chords that make the Anglicized "u" in the band's name feel inevitable rather than extraneous. Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Califone) helps downplay the retro in the production department, heard well on single "Faust" and a forlorn take on the Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon."”
