“With the road regimen of Black Flag and the conceptual mania of Sufjan Stevens, Netherfriends ringleader Shawn Rosenblatt tasked himself an outrageous challenge: in a single year, write and record one new song in each of the 50 states. Miracle of miracles, the dude actually pulled it off; and before heading back on the road (of course), Rosenblatt returns home to Chicago, sharing the first batch of tracks from his ridiculously improbable cross-country feat. The debut dispatch is called Middle America, and it gets the record-release treatment at the Empty Bottle. Try the first leak, "Bloomington, IN," a big, buoyant, and decidedly non-slapdash bit of indie introspection.
