In the time since Martin Creed landed the Turner Prize in 2001 with Work No. 227, the lights going on and off, a room display with, appropriately enough, the lights going on and off every few seconds, the Scottish minimalist has kept up the conceptual whimsy. Recent projects include indie-pop micro-song recordings and encouraging the UK to welcome the London 2012 Olympic Games with a nationwide, simultaneous bell-ringing. As the yearlong intervention/installation Martin Creed Plays Chicago begins to unfold at the MCA and other points throughout the city, Creed holds an artist talk/musical performance, with Amanda McAliste (the Seldoms) lending support.
