“By now, most of us are probably familiar with the idea and term Relational Aesthetics. A theory formed by Nicolas Bourriaud in 1996, it basically provided a basis for understanding work that had been going on then and long before, proving the truth of Tom Marioni's 1970-79 social work "The Act of Drinking Beer with Friends is the Highest Form of Art." For the opening of Feast, Marioni himself serves suds and Theaster Gates and the Black Monks of Mississippi perform. Michael Rakowitz satisfies those obsessed with the food-truck craze, while bringing a new twist to Rirkrit Tiravanija's public food preparation.”
Celebrate the opening of Feast: Radical Hospitality in Contemporary Art.
The evening features drinks served by artist Tom Marioni as part of his social artwork "The Act of Drinking Beer with Friends is the Highest Form of Art" and a performance by Theaster Gates and the Black Monks of Mississippi. Plus, Michael Rakowitz's Enemy Kitchen food truck will be parked outside serving regional Iraqi cuisine on paper replicas of Saddam Hussein's china all night long. Free and open to the public.
