“When was the last time you enjoyed a drink with Madeleine Grynsztejn, the Director of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art? Or with Anthony Hirschel, the Director of the Smart Museum? The directors of these two top museums are guest bartending for the March presentation of Tom Marioni's ongoing social artwork from 1970, "The Act of Drinking Beer with Friends Is the Highest Form of Art," presented as part of the Smart's Feast exhibition (see below for future "Act" guests). Think about it this way: by drinking free beer you will be helping to build and continue culture. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?”
Held regularly since 1970, artist Tom Marioni's famous salon comes to Chicago. Guests are invited gather and drink free beer within a bar-like installation in the Smart's galleries.
The guest bartenders include:
March 1: Anthony Hirschel, Dana Feitler Director of the Smart Museum of Art, and Madeleine Grynsztejn, Pritzker Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago April 5: Chicago hip-hop group BBU May 3: TBA June 7: Chicago theater collective The Neo-Futurists
Presented in collaboration with the exhibition Feast: Radical Hospitality in Contemporary Art, on view at the Smart Museum of Art from February 16 to June 10, 2012.
