“We could never co-sign the hype around Love Remains, the almost-silly R&B&WT (rhythm and blues and wind tunnel) debut record from Tom Krell, aka How To Dress Well. Something about it always felt over-produced, fabricated, and inauthentic. But last year's EP, Just Once, was truly a revelation: four How To Dress Well songs stripped of electronic accouterments, backed with orchestral arrangements that allow the beauty and pain of the songs to shine through. If those records are any indication, expect plenty of wonderfully demonstrative late '80s/early '90s R&B, spiked with more abstract material (see telling mentions of Tim Hecker and Oneohtrix Point Never in Krell's Faves of 2011) for this DJ gig at the Whistler.”
