The nearly 100-year-old, kunsthalle-style Renaissance Society has been a leading Chicago proponent of contemporary art pretty much since that term gained faculty. Longtime Executive Director Susanne Ghez oversees the handful of exhibitions each year from RS’s University of Chicago headquarters. Where too many museums commit themselves to blockbuster acquisition, the Ren’s eternal mission of exposing Midwestern eyes to groundbreaking work takes onus, be it via international draws or visionary locals.
