Chor Boogie
Cover for Issue 213
Chicago
Issue 213 October 14, 2008

Chor Boogie, born Jason Hailey in 1979, was raised in Oceanside, California. At the age of five, his kindergarten teacher handed him a paintbrush, and he fell in love with the creative process immediately, telling his teacher, "When I grow up, I am going to be an artist."

A self-taught artist, Boogie's passion is fueled by the work of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Rembrandt; he also draws inspiration from more modern artists such as Klimt, van Gogh, and Dalí.
Nearly a decade ago, a deep spiritual healing and recovery from addiction transformed his life and had a major impact on his style and use of color. Chor Boogie moved to San Francisco in 2007 to pursue a full-time career in art.

The work seen here is a mural commissioned by the Melbourne Stencil Festival in Melbourne, Australia.
